Anti-LGBTI laws: Liberia

In Liberia, homosexual intercourse is a misdemeanor with no specified punishment.

No one has been jailed for violating that law, but some members of the Liberian house of representatives in 2012 pushed for a bill to reclassify the offense as a felony.

The Liberian senate, on the other hand, passed a constitutional amendment that would prohibit same-sex marriage.

In 2012, Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf said she would veto any bill whether to toughen or loosen the laws related to homosexuality.
