Malaysia’s Ministry of Education has endorsed guidelines for parents to use to spot “symptoms” of homosexuality in their children.  The belief behind the guidelines is that people are not born lesbian or gay, but learn it or are “infected” by it.

[After the guidelines were met with widespread ridicule, the ministry said it hadn’t actually endorsed them, although they were a prominent part of a seminar led by the deputy minister.]

The guidelines list four symptoms each of gays and lesbians, the MalaysiaKini news website reported:

Symptoms of gays:

  • Have a muscular body and like to show their body by wearing V-neck and sleeveless clothes;
  • Prefer tight and light-coloured clothes;
  • Attracted to men; and
  • Like to bring big handbags, similar to those used by women, when hanging out.

Symptoms of lesbians:

  • Attracted to women;
  • Besides their female companions, they will distance themselves from other women;
  • Like to hang out, have meals and sleep in the company of women; and
  • Have no affection for men.

The guidelines add, “Once the children have these symptoms, immediate attention should be given.”

The document was published by the Putrajaya parent-teacher organization, endorsed by the Education Ministry, and unveiled this week at a seminar in Penang on “Parenting in addressing the issue of LGBTs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders),” MalaysiaKini reported.

Deputy Education Minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi led the seminar. He was quoted as saying that parents should know the symptoms in order to “address the spread of such unhealthy phenomenon among students.”

“Youths are easily influenced by websites and blogs relating to LGBT groups. This can also spread among their friends. We are worried that this happens during schooling time,” Puad told some 1,500 teachers and parents, according to the report.

The belief that homosexuality is a lifestyle option rather than an innate characteristic is a crucial underpinning for the widespread claim that homosexuality is a sinful choice, not part of a person’s God-given identity.

That same belief is shared by the upcoming gathering of Restored Hope Network, a group that broke away from the former “ex-gay therapy” network Exodus International after it abandoned the goal of turning homosexuals into heterosexuals.

As the blog O-blog-dee-o-blog-da and others reported, “Exodus International, the largest ex-gay organization in the world, has recently announced that they do not endorse conversion therapy, that ‘99.99% of all their participants have not changed their sexual orientation and that celibacy is the only option for gay and lesbian people.’ ”

  4. The symptoms of Lesbianism:
    Here goes; Symptom(Sx) 1. Attracted to women – well I am not attracted to men, but then I am not overly attracted to women either. Sx2. Besides their female companions, they will distance themselves from other women – I do find myself distancing myself from other women, and I do have a few female friends. Mostly because I do not find many women that I can share my life experiences with. Sx3. Like to hang out, have meals and sleep in the company of women – I have hung out with other women in the past, shared meals with them and we all slept together in the same room, when I was going to Basic Training and in the Military. I do enjoy going out to dinner with my few female friends. Sx4. Have no affection for men – I have no real affection for men, most of them are bores, but then I find that I can not find many women my age that have had the same life experiences that I have had. So because of this listing of symptoms I must be a Lesbian. Well three out of four isn’t too bad.

    When will people get over this obsession with other people’s lives. They say that it is not part of Gods design, who really knows what God’s design really is, as far as I know He has not revealed it to anyone on this pathetic piece of rock, at least not to me. During my adult life I have met many “gay” people many of them make better Christians, Jews, or Muslims than the so called straight people do. They seem to be able to live up to the teachings of all the Prophets (pbwt), Moses, Issa and Muhammad, then their straight brothers and sisters.

    Did not the Prophet Issa, teach, these are paraphrased, “Judge not lest ye be judged in the same light.” or “ Do not look to the splinter in your neighbor’s eye until you deal with the log in your eye.” People need to spend more time fixing what is wrong in their lives then trying to change the lives of a very small portion of the human race. That goes for those who believe they are good Christians, Jews or Muslims. God created all living things on this rock and he said they where good. True, He has had problems in the past with people who lusted after others or their possessions, look to Sodom. Sodom was not destroyed because the town was full of gay people, it was destroyed because of the sinfulness of the people. People if you want a religion to guide your lives then look to all of them combined Judaism with Christianity with Islam. Once you start to master all of the teachings of all the Prophets then you may master how to live in harmony with other peoples and cultures.

    Remember, GOD MADE US ALL EQUAL IN HIS EYES AND DECLARED IT GOOD. So the teachings go. Or maybe our family motto from back around 300 CE will help you, “Et secundum diversitatem unitatis pro scientiam/Einheit durch Vielfalt und Wissen” is supposed to mean “Unity through diversity and knowledge”.
